Our club, organized in 2003, is more than 40 members strong. We organize events for local alumni and support our area’s Northwestern students. We plan social events for recent grads who live in the Triangle for their first post-graduate jobs or to attend Triangle-area grad schools.
This fall, specifically the weekend of the Northwestern-Duke football game on September 6, 2008, we will enjoy being with alums from across the country who come to Durham to watch the Wildcats tangle with the Blue Devils and to explore a bit of the NC Triangle area. It’s rumored that the NUMBAlums (Northwestern University Marching Band Alums) may perform that day!
Already in 2008, our club’s members have enjoyed a special cooking class and meal, with wine tasting, at the famous Southern Season in Chapel Hill.
On Saturday, March 15, our club held its first community service program: a Lake Jordan shore cleanup organized by the Army Corps of Engineers to restore water quality for natural wildlife.
We were on the Duke lacrosse field sidelines to cheer our Women’s Lacrosse Team as it played the Blue Devils on Sunday, April 6.
On Sunday afternoon, May 18, we held a members-only potluck social at a member’s home which featured NU grad Dr. Cori E. Dauber, now on faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill, who spoke about national security.
On Thursday, June 5, our club hosted other Big Ten local alums as the Durham Bulls played Richmond. Attendees enjoyed the game and ballpark food!
And in late summer, on Sunday, Aug. 24, our NU Club of NC Triangle will hold its fifth annual New Student Sendoff Picnic. We invite new students and their families, as well as returning students.
