Northwestern Network Mentorship Program

Mentor meeting with student

The Northwestern Network Mentorship Program (NNMP) is designed to cultivate meaningful, professional mentor/mentee relationships between the school’s accomplished alumni and current students or fellow alumni. Alumni with degrees from all class years, programs, and schools may participate as volunteer mentors, mentees, or both; degree-seeking students may participate as mentees. These mentoring relationships are meant to provide valuable support and guidance to students and alumni as they navigate their careers, explore new career paths, or consider graduate school.

How It Works

  • The program is open to degree-seeking students and degreed alumni from all class years, programs, and schools.
  • Participants must register by logging onto the mentorship program’s online platform and completing a profile, which takes 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Alumni may participate as a mentor, mentee, or both at the same time. Students may participate as mentees.
  • Student and alumni mentees are then able to search for and request a mentor who best matches their career interests.
  • Alumni mentors may either accept or decline a mentorship request.
  • Mentors may accept up to three mentees at a time; mentees may have up to two mentors at once.
  • Mentors remain anonymous until the connection is accepted. Once mutually established, the mentor-mentee pair then agree on goals and communication preferences, including whether they’ll speak by phone or meet in person and how often they’ll connect, whether it's once or multiple times throughout the year.

Seeking Common Ground

The Affinity Leaders and Learners (ALL) Mentorship Program, strives to create a more tailored mentorship experience for students. The program fosters a personal, impactful relationship for those who may prefer to connect with someone with similar personal or life experience and career interests.

The ALL Mentorship Program reviews applications and carefully partners students and alumni based on common criteria and interests, making it easy for students to find a meaningful mentor relationship. Each mentor pairing lasts for 4 months and provides community-based opportunities to learn and share together.

ALL Mentorship Program participants can participate in NNMP simultaneously.

Currently, this program partners with the Northwestern University Black Alumni Association (NUBAA), Northwestern University Asian and Asian American Alumni Association (NU-A5), Northwestern University Pride Alumni Club (NUPAC), Latino Alumni of Northwestern University (LANU), Northwestern University Muslim Alumni (NUMA), and Native American and/or Indigenous alumni. We hope to welcome more affinity groups in the future.
