Roles and Responsibilities

The President is the principal executive officer of the Association and presides over all meetings of the Board of Directors and general meetings of the Association.  The President directs the duties of the other officers and chairs the executive committee and serves as ex-officio member of all standing committees of the Association.  The President is responsible for communicating the NAA mission, strategic goals, and committee objectives to members of the NAA board and other alumni volunteers, NAA staff, administration, faculty, and students as well as inspiring and motivating alumni to find innovative ways to help the NAA succeed.

The President-Elect performs duties assigned by the President.  The President-Elect is responsible for developing the strategic plan for his/her upcoming term.

The Immediate Past President performs duties assigned by the President of the Board of Directors.

Three Vice Presidents have primary oversight for the standing and ad hoc committees. One of the Vice Presidents also has oversight for the Regional Directors. The President of the Association may assign additional duties.

The Secretary is responsible for recording all minutes of the Board of Directors, the executive committee, the Officers, and causes minutes to be recorded of all committees of the board.  The President of the Association may assign additional duties

The Treasurer is responsible for reporting on the status of all funds of the Association to the Board of Directors, and to the annual meeting of the Association. The Treasurer will develop a budget for the upcoming fiscal year including requests for future funding requirements. The President of the Association may assign additional duties.  

Directors-at-Large

Serve as a chair or co-chair of a standing committee as appointed by the President. They implement assignments to achieve committee objectives that support NAA strategic goals. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, organizing, coordinating and hosting phone conferences on a monthly basis, and working with the committee’s liaison from the NAA Staff. They make recommendations to the NAA Board on how to support strategic plan goals. Each NAA Board member is expected to support the University financially to the best of his/her ability, making Northwestern a personal philanthropic priority.

Student Directors

Student Directors serve as the primary liaison between the student body and the NAA Board.  In collaboration with the NAA officers and NAA professional staff, they work on projects relating to the Alumni Association’s role in the students NU campus life experience.

Regional Directors

Serve as the hands-on active link between the region they serve, the NAA Board, and NAA staff. Their constituents include but are not limited to the NAA officers and board, club volunteer leaders, young alumni, alumni regents, national and spirit clubs, and the alumni admissions council director in their region. Regional Directors serve as mentors and offer guidance to local club presidents and the club board. They make recommendations to the NAA Board on how to support the local clubs and organizations in their efforts to increase engagement within the region. Regional Directors may also be asked to chair an NAA committee. Each NAA Board member is expected to support the University financially to the best of his/her ability, making Northwestern a personal philanthropic priority.
