YOUR NORTHWESTERN HOST

Kathryn Kimura Mlsna '74, '77 JD, '03 P, '12 P is the immediate past President of the Northwestern Alumni Association and is a member of Northwestern University’s Board of Trustees. She has served as an officer on the NAA Board of Directors; as president of The Council of One Hundred; and as steering committee chair for Northwestern University Asian and Asian American Alumni Association (NU-A5). She has served on reunion committees for her undergraduate and law school reunions, and served on the law school fund board. While at Northwestern she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta.

Kathryn is the interim Co-Executive Director of the American Academy of Periodontology, responsible for Governance, Strategy, Finance, Membership, Technology, Advocacy, Regulatory and Academic Affairs.

Kathryn was Chief Strategy/Legal Officer for the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana. Her previous position was AVP/Client services for Global Lead Management Consulting, a firm providing consulting and training services in the area of diversity and inclusion and talent management.

Celebrating her 30th anniversary with the company, Kathryn was Managing Counsel at McDonald's Corporation, Oak Brook, Illinois; leading the Global Marketing and Intellectual Property Group in McDonald's Global Legal Department. Her group provided legal support of the advertising and promotional programs conducted by the over 13,000 McDonald's restaurants in the United States.

Her group was also the subject matter expert resource for the company's international legal counsel relating to their responsibilities for the over 15,000 restaurants around the world. She and her group received the Company's "Star Award" in connection with their work on the Teenie Beanie Babies promotions.

She is a past chair/president (the first female lawyer to hold this position) of the 700-member Promotion Marketing Association, having served as its vice president, chair of its annual Promotion Marketing Law Conference, chair of its legal committee, and chair of its integrated marketing committee. Kathryn also served on the board of The Girls Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, and currently serves on the board of the Association of Corporate Counsel Chicago chapter.

Kathryn is co-author of the chapter "Planning a Legal Promotion – Sales Promotion Laws and Regulations" appearing in The Sales Promotion Handbook, Dartnell Publishing. She is a contributor to the American Bar Association's publication Dear Sisters, Dear Daughters, a compilation of mentoring advice from 80 lawyers in the United States, and its book What In House Counsel Need to Know. Kathryn is the author of numerous articles has been featured in books about business leadership.

The “Eternal City” of Rome, a UNESCO World Heritage site and capital of the ancient Roman Empire, showcases the magnificent landmarks from its centuries as a center of power, culture and religion and is the ideal prelude to your cruise. See the city’s ancient monuments, including the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Church of St. Peter in Chains, which houses Michelangelo’s incredible sculpture of Moses. Optional Barcelona Post-Cruise Extension

Experience the heart of Barcelona, the capital city of Catalonia and once an ancient Roman trading port. Enjoy a city tour featuring the original Old Town, the exciting Barri Gótic (Gothic Quarter) with its Roman walls, the Catalan Government Palace and the Passeig de Grácia, Barcelona’s famous main thoroughfare. Visit architect Antoni Gaudí’s extraordinary Basílica de la Sagrada Família, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the Penedés region—home of cava, Spain’s acclaimed sparking wine—tour Codorníu, one of the largest underground wine cellars in the world, and visit the Benedictine monastery and 16th‑century basilica on the multi-peaked mountain of Montserrat.
