Northwestern University Alumni Club of the West Valley
Please let me introduce myself: I am Dave Poling and I am the President of the local Northwestern Alumni club. We have had a Club here in the Sun Cities area for many years and we have just recently changed our name as noted above to better reflect the growth of the West Valley and where so many of our alumni actually live.
We ordinarily sponsor three or four functions every year for our Alumni and their friends. One of the things that certainly distinguishes our Club from other NU Alumni clubs around the country is that we not only notify our members by mail of upcoming events but our Board also calls every one in our Club directory to encourage them to attend. We have actually been singled out by the Evanston Alumni Association for being particularly successful in this regard!
We have about 130 alums listed in our Directory (which we just updated this fall) and we would love to have you listed along with the others. On January 26, 2008 we are welcoming a very interesting speaker, Dr. Fay Lomax Cook, Professor of Human Development and Social Policy at Northwestern, who will speak on “Getting Behind the Rhetoric on Social Security: Problems, Politics and Policy Proposals” .This will be a Saturday brunch starting at 9:00am and will be at the Arrowhead Country Club in Glendale.
I often wonder why you are not currently listed in our Directory, but I would like to assure you that our Club is strictly for providing interesting speakers and first rate entertainment (see our March 29th program!) We don’t solicit for the University, nor do we circulate our member’s names to anyone except those members that pick up our Directory. Our Dues are voluntary and currently are $10 per year (or $100 for a lifetime membership.) We use our dues only to cover expenses associated with our meetings. With that as background we would really like to have you join us as members, listed in our Directory and hopefully in attendance at one or more of our activities!
