Podcast: Campus in the Sixties

Eugene S. Sunshine (WCAS71) at A Day with Northwestern in 2007

From a light-hearted take on the rapid social changes of the time, to a front-seat view of the strike that closed Northwestern’s campus in the aftermath of the Kent State shootings, Eugene Sunshine’s recollections of campus in the late sixties offers a compelling listen—whether you’re inside or outside the Northwestern community.

Eugene S. Sunshine (WCAS71) has been the senior vice president for business and finance at Northwestern University since 1997. He is the chief business, financial, administrative, and personnel officer of the University and serves as the principal adviser to President Bienen on non-academic matters. Sunshine and his wife Holly (WCAS71) both received BA degrees from Northwestern in 1971. Their son Brad (WCAS01) is also a Northwestern alumnus, and their daughter, Emily, is in a master’s degree program in the School of Education and Social Policy.  Sunshine was the senior vice president for administration of The Johns Hopkins University from 1988-1997. He also holds a master of public administration degree from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs of Syracuse University.

This NAA podcast was taken from his presentation, “From Northwestern Student to Northwestern Administrator,” which was recorded at A Day with Northwestern in Evanston on April 21, 2007.
