About the PresenterDr. Patrick McCarthy Patrick McCarthy is the chief of the division of Cardiac Surgery and co-director of the Northwestern Memorial Cardiovascular Institute, as well as professor of surgery at Feinberg School of Medicine.
Previously, Dr. McCarthy was the Surgical Director of the George M. and Linda H. Kaufman Center for Heart Failure and the Program Director of the Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support programs at Cleveland Clinic Heart Center. Dr. McCarthy received his undergraduate degree from Notre Dame and trained in Cardio-Thoracic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic. He completed his fellowship in Cardiopulmonary Transplantation at Stanford University.
Dr. McCarthy has received many prestigious awards and honors and has authored more than 200 scientific publications. His work on surgical therapies for heart failure has been profiled on “Nova” and “20/20” and featured in the New York Times, Time, Newsweek, and Discover.
