An Extremely Purple Theater Event

More than 300 Northwestern alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students gathered together on May 2 to attend the latest Northwestern Alumni Association Chicago Theater event: the Tony Award-nominated, soul-stirring production of The Color Purple.

After the show, the group was delighted to interact with members of the cast during an exclusive discussion moderated by Rives Collins, Chair of Northwesternís Theatre department. The post-show discussion with cast members included Chicagoan and Tony-nominated actress, Felicia P. Fields; former member of the three-time Grammy Award-winning American R&B group Destiny's Child, Michelle Williams; and LaTonya Holmes, who, as an understudy, gave a titanic performance in the production's main role, Celie.

Never a dull moment at the theatre, it was an evening enjoyed by all!

Directed by Gary Griffin, who directed The Boys are Coming Home for Northwestern's American Music Theatre Project, The Color Purple was adapted for the stage by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Grammy Award winners Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. Producers of the production include Oprah Winfrey and Quincy Jones.
