In Step with NUBAA
Early on the morning of Saturday, October 7, 2006 over 100 students, alumni, and NU faculty members gathered on the east lawn of Norris University Center to participate in the inaugural NUBAA/FMO 5K Run/Walk.
These dedicated Wildcats gathered together to help fund a new undergraduate African-American Scholarship to a financially deserving but academically stellar high school African American student.
After two energizing speeches given by NUBAA president Ce Cole Dillon and FMO coordinator Monica Harris, the runners were off.
Jeff Ricks clocked in first for the men at 17 minutes and 10 seconds, while Ai Shibano finished first among the women with a time of 24 minutes and 14 seconds. Others decided to take their time with the event, choosing to walk and enjoy the crisp fall air and gorgeous sunrise over Lake Michigan.
At the end of the day, the first NUBAA/FMO 5K Run/Walk was a rousing success as it brought in more than $10,000 in scholarship donations. Encouraged by these exciting results, NUBAA is looking to host another 5K Run/Walk in May 2007. Stay tuned for details! page 1 of 1 Add a photo |
